Description
A vintage French movie poster of ''Chateau de Verre'' ("The Glass Castle"), a 1950 French romantic drama film directed by René Clément, co-written with Gian Bistolfi and Pierre Bost, and based on Vicki Baum's 1935 novel "Das große Einmaleins". The movie stars Michèle Morgan, Jean Marais, and features Jean Servais and Fosco Giachetti in the French and Italian versions respectively.
The narrative centers on Evelyne, the young wife of Judge Bertal, who falls in love with Rémy, a man living in Paris, during a holiday in Italy. Caught in the whirlwind of this romance, Evelyne follows Rémy to Paris, and realizes that he is the one she truly loves. Faced with the reality of her emotions, she decides to return home to inform her husband of her feelings. However, the story takes a tragic turn as her plane crashes.
Upon returning home from her vacation, Evelyne is at a crossroads and must decide whether to tell her husband about her affair or continue to see Rémy in secret.
The film is noted for bridging the gap between the star-driven French cinema of the late 1940s and the auteur-driven modernist trend that would emerge with the French New Wave in the late 1950s, marking it as a transitional piece in René Clément's early filmography.
